As we drove from Iowa to Kansas yesterday, and I thought about the journey I am on, I decided to sketch. That then led to writing a poem. Please forgive the big error on this, I was doing it in the car after all.
For the poem, I attempted another etheree, as I thought it would create the image of words moving into the distance down the road. It reads as follows:
Now
Begins
The Journey
Moving onward
into the unknown.
In the distance, a choice
as yet unseen, a tunnel
a fork in the road to somewhere
beyond the knowledge and the dreams and plans
of the woman who moves forward bravely.

Lovely words!
Aug 16, 2011 @ 07:39:17
Thank you Vicky.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 08:04:24
You have taught me about the etheree… thank you. I got to learn along with you as you journey. Seen any corn? ha, ha!!!!
Aug 16, 2011 @ 08:20:39
As we drive, during long moments of silence, one of us always breaks the silence to initiate this conversation:
“To the right?”
“Corn.”
“To the left?”
“Corn.”
“Straight ahead?
“Corn.”
Aug 16, 2011 @ 08:33:21
You have a growing talent for etheree. Me, I can’t even birth it, let alone grow it. By now you’ve traversed the land of corn. If ever you’ve been lost in a cornfield (hot, stifling, NOISY! Bug biting, clinging, claustrophobic) you’d be thankful to just drive by the miles and miles of it. America is lots of corn!
Aug 16, 2011 @ 08:52:05
Lost in corn mazes last year, that was enough for me.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 08:40:49
Brave is the key word here, Lisa. Love this.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 08:53:05
Is bravery supposed to make you feel nauseous?
Aug 16, 2011 @ 12:34:43
That’s all that corn-motion that is making you nauseous. Sorry, that was lame.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 12:35:34
Lame, perhaps. But it made me laugh out loud! Thanks, I needed that.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 12:36:47
Good – safe travels.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 08:57:55
Cool poem! And car writing — I love it! And I love long car trips too… as for bravery and whether it should make you nauseous (from your previous comment): ABSOLUTELY. I’m always nauseous when starting a new phase/adventure in life. Terrifying but thrilling!
Aug 16, 2011 @ 09:37:11
I haven’t done much car writing or drawing, but this was fun and a distraction. Glad to know the nausea is acceptable.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 09:38:53
Wonderful to go on your road trip with you and the family! i I personally prefer to travel at night in the coolness and quiet. It is difficult to see what is ahead at night but I like the sensation of skimming along. No or little traffic appeals to me.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 09:41:25
Traveling at night can be fun too. When I was little, I used to lie in the back seat, stair at the stars and dream about another little girl looking at the stars on a distant planet. Since we left much later than intended, we got the joys of both.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 12:25:48
Again – life seems to be inspiring great works of art, Lisa. This and the 100 words are beautiful.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 12:34:41
Thank you Lenore.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 12:35:53
Very beautiful. your writing, and your journey.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 12:42:42
Thank you k8edid.
Aug 16, 2011 @ 20:52:09
Nice etheree–you make me want to write one too! Think of this move as an adventure: exciting and new!
Aug 16, 2011 @ 20:58:46
For some reason the theme song from The Love Boat just popped into my head! “Love, exciting and new . . .”LOL
Aug 17, 2011 @ 07:26:34
What the heck….new horizons ahead I guess…personally I’m humming The Beverley Hillbillies!
Aug 17, 2011 @ 07:30:19
Ha ha! “Come and listen to a story of a man named Jed . . . ”
Aug 17, 2011 @ 15:20:01
Hope you and yer kin are doin’ fine seein’ as yer loaded up yer truck and are movin’ to Kansas…Ya’ all.” ( I just loved those shows!) Guess it just goes to show us that everyone goes through the same kind of big choices, moving, new jobs, schools etc…best wishes from Ontario. Canada!
Aug 17, 2011 @ 15:28:33
I love Canada. And, who knows, if the next presidential election is disastrous, I might be heading there next.;)
Aug 18, 2011 @ 15:55:28
Good Job! And we might have to arrange a massive carpool as far as heading for Canada….. You can count us in! Saskatchewan here we come!
Aug 18, 2011 @ 16:11:48
The roads to Canada are going to be crowded if the worst happens, that’s for sure.
Aug 18, 2011 @ 18:51:20
Hupe things work out! If you ever want to get a feel for our Canadian politics from a comedic point of view look up Rick Mercer’s show.
Aug 18, 2011 @ 23:32:57
Lisa, I love it! the picture, the poem, the thought of a new beginning, an unknown journey, to move forward bravely, not knowing what is around the bend. That is how life should be. If we truly knew what was ahead, we may never go forward. Some people fear the unknown, but sometimes I think knowing is more scary. I will be with you in spirit on this journey and I look forward always, to seeing what is around the bend.
Aug 19, 2011 @ 09:33:48
Thanks Heather. Wherever the journey takes us, I’m glad you were part of it, even if only for a short time.
Aug 19, 2011 @ 09:31:00
Happy tears. Thank you.
