Devious Doubt
sneaks in the cracks
whispering perilous prose.
“You cannot succeed!
It’s just a dream!
There ‘s no hope, you know.”
Fractious Fear
joins in the fray
after creeping through the door.
“If you try you’ll fail,
they’ll laugh at you
of that I’m very sure.”
Undulating Uncertainty
oozes in,
leaving slime along the floor.
“You’re doomed, my friend
you cannot win.
You’ve never won before.”
Calm Confidence
speaks up at last
climbing on the bed.
“That’s a lie!
You know it’s true
that she’s been far ahead.”
Hovering Hope
heeds the call
and adds her singing voice.
“Her past supports
her current dream
and she’s made
the perfect choice.”
The monsters loom,
they growl and groan
they try all of their tricks.
But deep inside
Queen Confidence reigns
and she can take their licks.
The path ahead
remains unknown
the future still unclear
but monsters will never
overcome
the dream she holds so dear.

Thank you for reading it. I’m glad you liked it.

Fantastic, Lisa! Keep that doubt at bay.
Oct 12, 2011 @ 17:37:56
As long as I can write silly poems about it, I think I’ll be okay.
Oct 12, 2011 @ 18:21:05
Needed this today. I’m having a down day. Feel like I work so hard and see no results. I can so relate to this poem.
Oct 12, 2011 @ 18:32:49
Hang in there. Don’t let the doubts creep in.
Oct 12, 2011 @ 18:42:54
Great poem! I didn’t know their names before reading this, but “Hovering hope” is on my shoulder…. and “Queen Confidence” is close behind! Thanks for naming them for me!
Oct 12, 2011 @ 18:49:51
I think they named themselves, but I’m glad they are hanging around you too.
Oct 12, 2011 @ 18:52:45
Courage is not the absence of fear . . . it’s proceeding in spite of it.
You go, girl.
Oct 12, 2011 @ 18:53:38
Thanks. I’m going.

Great poem, cool!
I sometimes feel as if my Inner Critic and my Muse are fencing when I’m writing a pretty good scene that isn’t coming out quite the way I want it to.
Oct 12, 2011 @ 19:47:42
That’s a great image. I think my Muse is still too terrified to fight my Inner Critic. Could your muse give mine some fencing lessons?

Great poem, Lisa. Hang in there, my friend!

Thanks Kathy. I am hanging in there.

This is great! I find it so interesting that people’s self-criticisms seem silly to another person, but that other person may well apply those same inaccurate thoughts to themselves.
Oct 13, 2011 @ 07:54:54
I know, I am the queen of self-criticism but I am great at boosting up others.
Oct 13, 2011 @ 01:54:25
Hell yeah!
Oct 13, 2011 @ 07:54:09
Thanks Sparks!
Oct 13, 2011 @ 05:16:22
Doubts are creeping in for me so thanks for this!
Oct 13, 2011 @ 07:53:55
Don’t let doubt creep in, Vicky! You are an extremely talented writer and I know you can achieve your dreams. I may doubt for myself, but not for you.
Oct 13, 2011 @ 17:52:48
Perfect. Go get ‘em……
Oct 13, 2011 @ 18:01:04
Thanks.

This is an insightful poem and speaks to a fear we all have… even very successful people have doubts and fears We must just soldier on.
Oct 15, 2011 @ 08:31:08
And so we shall . . .
