The challenge:
“Now for this week, I’m pinching (with permission!) an idea from my dear friend Jenny Matlock. You may not be old enough to know this rhyme:
Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot…Now it has a rhythm to it – yes? Your challenge this week is to write something with the same rhythm using only 21 words that include ‘ …in winter we shiver…‘ Easy!”
Once I started the challenge, I couldn’t stop, so here are three variations:

Version I: Seasonal Silliness
Whatever the weather in winter we shiver
Whenever the wind does blow
‘Tis the season, surpassing reason
Making men from snow.

Version II: Celebrating the Season
In winter we shiver, limbs all a-quiver
Whenever winds do blow
Still many a reason, a smiling season;
Stupendous sparkly snow.
Version III: Season of Doom
Come hither children, in winter we shiver
as death creeps ever in.
Play, play, forever; undefeatable never
for seasons always win.

Well done; another clever series of posts; I particularly like the alliteration in your second one.
Nov 01, 2011 @ 07:57:32
Thanks Anna. I hope my brain stops trying to write these things now.
Nov 01, 2011 @ 08:29:06
Well done Lisa. I really enjoyed all of these, but the 3rd one was my favourite.
Nov 01, 2011 @ 08:39:36
I have to admit, that’s my favorite too. Perhaps its all the ghost stories I’ve been reading.
Nov 01, 2011 @ 08:57:18
I think you did awesome on this challenge. my favorite is a tie between #1 & #3
Nov 01, 2011 @ 09:02:21
Thanks Monica. Snow men smiles vs. the truth about life, which one will win?
Nov 01, 2011 @ 10:54:35
most awesome shivers!!
Nov 01, 2011 @ 11:37:17
Thanks Joss, glad to provide.
Nov 01, 2011 @ 11:26:53
These are great – I particulalry like the ghostly one at the end. It evoked a whole story in my mind of children playing as though invincible and each year the winter blows in to remind them that they to are mortal and growing older towards death. Ooooooh, shivers down my spine!
Nov 01, 2011 @ 11:37:01
It comes from reading ghost stories by candlelight over the past few days.
Nov 01, 2011 @ 12:05:50
I do not envy you having snow already! But great poem!
Nov 01, 2011 @ 12:09:36
Just to clarify, those pictures are from last Christmas. The snow is almost gone, but the broken trees remain.
Nov 01, 2011 @ 16:43:38
Great posts! Very well done, enjoyed!
Nov 01, 2011 @ 16:52:08
Always a pleasure to be in the vicinity when you create art. I can feel the veritable waves of creatitude (I don’t care if that is not a word!)!
Nov 01, 2011 @ 18:22:25
“Veritable Waves of Creatitude” sounds like a good title for something. Too bad those waves keep me awake at night.
Nov 01, 2011 @ 16:56:12
This is so good! Glad to be here for your “shivers!” Thanks for sharing your vignettes (coincidentally, I just posted 3 vignettes prompted from elsewhere but am for sure going to try yours now). Appreciate your always inspiring creativity in motion
Nov 01, 2011 @ 18:21:40
I’ll have to check out your vignettes. I love the idea of creativity in motion.
Nov 01, 2011 @ 17:04:58
I couldn’t choose…all wonderful, Robin

Thanks Robin.

All the snow in the pictures were from last winter, but Sunday was still pretty intense.

Nov 01, 2011 @ 23:29:24
All good but my favorite is the second!
Nov 02, 2011 @ 16:37:08
It’s interesting what everyone names as their favorites.
Nov 02, 2011 @ 01:33:03
I have such a headache from trying to write just one! All three of yours show such skill. It was a pleasure to read and re-read them.
Nov 02, 2011 @ 16:37:53
Thanks Sparks. I thought I replied yesterday, but my comment disappeared. Sorry.
Nov 02, 2011 @ 04:33:58
Love the shivers and quivers. A delightful series. I can almost feel the minds going dum, dum dum di dum as the rhythm overtakes them.
Nov 02, 2011 @ 08:06:56
I think that’s why I kept writing. Once you get the rhythm in you, its hard to stop.
Nov 02, 2011 @ 16:26:59
I’ll find doing 1 hard. 3 is excellent.
Nov 02, 2011 @ 16:38:36
That’s my favorite. Thanks for reading.
Nov 03, 2011 @ 20:46:27
I have to say I really like the third one. Dark, but enjoyable!
Nov 04, 2011 @ 07:38:43
Still my favorite. I guess I like a little darkness.
Nov 03, 2011 @ 21:11:52
Love the stupendously sparkling snow in your smiley season. Great variety between the three
Nov 04, 2011 @ 07:38:19

It’s really my pleasure. It helps focus my week.
Nov 05, 2011 @ 13:11:23
Fabulous! The last one is very sad though, really well written though!
Nov 06, 2011 @ 06:49:49
