My head has been bombarded with random thankful thoughts today, so here I go:
- I am thankful for the two purchases Nathan made to make my trip to Slovakia easier, an I-Pod Nano (which I finally got to work) and a Kindle (which I have finally succumbed too). The Nano turned a walk to escape stress into a fabulous workout where I let my body give into the rhythm of the music. The Kindle enabled me to get some work done even after my printer ink died making me unable to print out the document I needed to read. I was able to go get ink and treat myself to a warm drink while still accomplishing my goal.
- I just ran into a stunningly beautiful woman. Tall, blonde, slim, dressed impeccably including high-heeled boots to die for. Now you would think that would make me a tad grumpy in all my five-foot, lumpy, dressed in sweats style. But, as I came up next to this woman who must have towered over me by well over a foot, I suddenly thought, “Wow, I bet it hurt to grow that tall. How do you even find your way to the toilet?” (we ran into each other at the restroom which she graciously allowed me to use first). So, for the first time ever I am thankful that I am short.

- I am thankful that dogs aren’t necessarily the brightest animals in the world. I came home to discover that one of the cables we use to put the dogs out had snapped completely. Of course, that didn’t prevent the dogs from wanting to go outside. So, I put Jasper (the more rambunctious one) on the cable that still functions and then attached the broken cable to Lizzy, hoping she would think she was attached and not wander too far. It worked. LOL
There you have it, two thankful posts in one day. What other craziness will ensue?
I am also thankful that Jamie came up with this wonderful idea to OCCUPY THANKSGIVING and that I am not a turkey.

It’s fun, and it is helping me focus on the positive.

I like dumb dogs!!!!!

Me too, but my dogs are not consistent in their dumbness . . . or maybe they are really brilliant at playing dumb. Sometimes they pull off major feats of intelligence that I cannot comprehend.

Our Ralph is pretty dumb–sweet, but not too bright. Lucy, on the other hand–too smart for her own good! I’m thankful for both of them——————- Sorry to hear in your last post that the weekend was stressful. Hang in there, my friend!
Hugs,
Kathy

I found the good out of the weekend anyway. I too am thankful for the dogs dumb or smart. They may annoy me a good portion of the time, but all is forgiven when they give me love and show excitement every time I come home.

Go Lizzie! lol. And a solid O T!

Of course, it was less successful the second time around when she discovered that she did, indeed, have free reign. I ended up outside with a flashlight hunting her down because she ignored all calls for her to come back. She hadn’t wandered far, she was just stubborn.

Very rarely, like when I have to crawl into a small space or lie in the bathtub, I am thankful for being short. The rest of the time I console myself by remembering at least I am not average height and not as short as my mom – that’s giving thanks, right
?

I am rarely thankful for it either. The other day when I was chaperoning Sarah’s 3rd grade field trip and realized that most of her class would be taller than me by 5th grade, I was not happy. But, there is a little payback, isn’t there, if it hurts to grow tall?

I’m curious to hear what you think of the Kindle. I’m still humming and hawing over it– do you think it’s worth it? Do you miss turning actual pages?
Nov 25, 2011 @ 06:23:19
Actually, Dana, I am surprised at how much I like it. I, like you, didn’t want to give up the pages of books. And I haven’t, as evidenced by the pile of books on my night table. It also helps that Nathan made me a Kindle holder out of an old book. I’ll share a picture of it when it’s done. The things I like are 1) the convenience of finishing one book and being able to get another simply by going to the Kindle store. This was really convenient during the long bus ride to and from Sarah’s field trip when I got her a story to distract her. 2) Free books. Jane Eyre, which I am re-reading now, was one of the many free ones and I am thrilled 3) The ability to send documents to my Kindle. When I ran out of printer ink last week, I was still able to get my work done while getting myself a warm drink in a coffee shop by e-mailing a PDF to my Kindle. Total awesomeness. I will never completely give up books, but I’m glad I have my Kindle for my upcoming Slovakian adventure.

Cool– thanks! I’ll look forward to seeing a picture of the Kindle cover when it’s ready.
