Sung to the tune of Winter Wonderland.* Explanations included below.
Stomach ache just beginning
As Jiji** keeps insisting
You have to eat more
There is food galore
At a Lee fam’ly holiday.
Turkeys cooked in all ways
Not just for the holidays
Roasted and more
Sometimes number four***
At a Lee fam’ly holiday.
In the morning we can open presents
But perhaps we shouldn’t eat too much.
For the party later is in essence
A feast so full of plenty, you’ll be stuffed.
After all the tummy stuffing
Then card battles over nothing
We play into the night
with somewhat friendly fights****
Nibbling on the leftovers while we play.

* The challenge this week:
“I want to to choose a favourite carol and re-write it with the theme of a Christmas Dinner. You have to tell your readers which carol it is and they have to be able to sing your version back to themselves. That means the right tempo and beat. You may not need 100 words but I’ll give you that many just in case! Generous aren’t I?!!”
** Jiji: Sarah’s name for my father-in-law.
*** One year there was a roasted turkey, a steamed turkey, a barbeque turkey, and a deep fried turkey in addition to many other meat options and side dishes and dessert of course.
****Shanghai Rummy, an awesome card game that leads to a little bit of competitive bidding.

Niiice! Helps actually know the songs and having the experience haha
Dec 12, 2011 @ 16:13:08
Google the lyrics, listen to the song, and then write about Chinese food. I was trying to do that with The Grinch, but I got stuck.
Dec 12, 2011 @ 16:29:11
I love that it is a Christmas song not a carol. Really clever. As for helping your brother, he can do his own thing – well you know he will!! Thank you for joining the silliness!
Dec 12, 2011 @ 16:35:37
Carols, songs, they confuse me. I can do an actual carol if you want . . . maybe. I’m not really helping him, he will come up with something or not.
Dec 12, 2011 @ 16:54:40
I did not even know there was a difference between a carol and a song lmao. Strangely this is the toughest one for me yet ….
Dec 12, 2011 @ 18:03:16
I only know the difference because someone made a comment on my questioning Christmas Carol post.
Dec 12, 2011 @ 17:06:55
How fun, Lisa!
Dec 12, 2011 @ 19:36:59
Wish I hadn’t missed that challenge. What fun, Lisa!
Dec 12, 2011 @ 19:43:36
You haven’t missed the challenge at all. She usually has it up for a week. The Linky hasn’t even gone up yet. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Dec 12, 2011 @ 20:33:20
It wasn’t steamed turkey, it was Teriyaki.
Dec 13, 2011 @ 07:21:55
I knew I was wrong, but couldn’t remember what the fourth turkey was.
Dec 13, 2011 @ 03:33:33
Loved the nibbling on the leftovers while we play – so true (as if we haven’t eaten enough!). Now I have to look up Shanghai Rummy – we used to play Kalooki which is also a variation of rummy, or pontoon (called something else in cassinoes I think) with matchsticks for wagers. Is Taochild your brother?
Dec 13, 2011 @ 07:19:22
Here’s a link to the directions for Shanghai Rummy http://www.pagat.com/rummy/ctrummy.html#shanghai.
And, yes, Taochild is indeed my big brother Steve.
Dec 13, 2011 @ 12:32:43
Thanks for the rummy rules. And as to Tao being your brother – cool!
Dec 13, 2011 @ 05:47:54
Yummy
Dec 13, 2011 @ 07:19:43
Overwhelming.
Dec 13, 2011 @ 06:23:43
This was fun. Love that you used real life experiences to help.
Also like the clever references. Mine, well it is just daft!
Ho Ho ho ho ho
Dec 13, 2011 @ 07:21:21
I only have limited experience with Christmas lunch–and most of it is with my in-laws and the extended, extended, extended . . . family. Always lots of food and noise.
Dec 13, 2011 @ 12:45:10
Love the “nibbling on leftovers while we play”. That will stick with me.
Dec 14, 2011 @ 08:03:23
The leftovers themselves stick with me.
Dec 13, 2011 @ 13:13:29
Lovely, lovely work. Such clever use of words.
Dec 14, 2011 @ 08:02:59
Thank you.
Dec 14, 2011 @ 12:27:15
Nice one Lisa, and it works perfectly with the tune!
Dec 14, 2011 @ 18:27:10
Thank you, lorely.
Dec 14, 2011 @ 17:39:46
I feel full after just reading your post!
Surprised you didn’t have a tur-duck-en in there too! (ala John Madden)
Dec 14, 2011 @ 18:25:42
One of these years I bet they will try it.
Dec 14, 2011 @ 17:51:10
Really enjoyed that! Great blog as always, (I regularly read your blogs by the way, even if I don’t comment often). I particularly love the bit about playing card battles over nothing :O) @Chaoskay
Dec 14, 2011 @ 18:25:21
Good to know you are reading. The battles are fun.
Dec 14, 2011 @ 18:27:06
It works really well with the tune Lisa! I’ve got tummy ache too, just thinking about 4 different kinds of turkey…
Dec 14, 2011 @ 18:28:03
That was a particularly overwhelming (and slightly nauseating) year.
Dec 14, 2011 @ 19:16:36
I was really getting into that – sounds like Christmas Dinner is a great success at your place
Dec 14, 2011 @ 19:38:30
That’s all my in-laws. We don’t really do Christmas here.
Dec 15, 2011 @ 00:26:06
sometimes number four? hahahaha!
Dec 15, 2011 @ 09:51:59
And I’m not talking small turkeys here.
Dec 17, 2011 @ 11:45:46
Fun! Great job – very singable and fun!
Dec 17, 2011 @ 19:23:34
Thanks Goofy.
Dec 18, 2011 @ 14:01:08
Great treatment of the traditional song. Rings very true with me too.
Dec 19, 2011 @ 09:54:14
Thanks.
Dec 19, 2011 @ 04:36:02
Great job, Lisa! Your family Christmases sound like a lot of fun.
Dec 19, 2011 @ 09:54:01
They always seem a little strange for me, because I still feel like an outsider sometimes and I didn’t grow up with Christmas or a big family. But, it can definitely be chaotic fun.
Dec 19, 2011 @ 06:58:56
Very clever. Loved singing along and all the traditions fitted in. Well done x
Dec 19, 2011 @ 09:53:11
Thanks Susan.
Dec 20, 2011 @ 13:25:28
4 turkeys!! An ambitious family.
Dec 20, 2011 @ 13:47:43
And they only make up a small portion of the food.
