Without sleep
your mind journeys
many directions at once
playing tricks
tempting you with possibilities
you can never catch.
Without sleep
shadows in the night
become creatures of the night
harrowing calls
urge you to hide under the covers
there is no comfort there,
there is no sleep.
Without sleep
your mind begins to write
nonsense words
meaningless blobs
letters written in
invisible ink
blood
imagination
fading into oblivion.
Without sleep
your body succumbs
to aches and pains
yearning for the release of
a dreamless sleep
that is an
inevitable
impossibility
Without sleep
everything becomes meaningless.

True that!
Mar 29, 2012 @ 10:08:51
LOL. Well at least without sleep my mind speaks the truth.
Mar 29, 2012 @ 10:25:11
I know how that feels. You have to keep going but so want to stop.
Mar 29, 2012 @ 10:26:35
And of course it always happens on the day I have things that I actually have to accomplish. But I can’t focus.
Did you see my continuation of The Box, Julia?
Mar 29, 2012 @ 12:50:50
I am so with you on this. So with with you. It usually happens on Tuesday nights and I have to teach ALL DAY on Wednesday. I am sure that sometimes I am barely coherent.
Mar 29, 2012 @ 13:24:50
I am so much fun when I teach after a night of insomnia. . . NOT!
Mar 29, 2012 @ 13:02:25
I’m evil when deprived of sleep!
Mar 29, 2012 @ 13:24:23
I bounce from evil to just plain stupid. I’ve been a little of both today.
Mar 29, 2012 @ 17:42:42
Good God, I know how this feels! Insomnia sucks!
By the way, Sara says you might be in Lexington in August. If so, our home is available for you to stay. We have lots of room and would LOVE to have you!
Hugs,
Kathy

LOL, I just have to weigh my desire to see you two and my friend Lisa with the reality of actually attending a conference . . . But thank you for the offer, I will definitely let you know.
Mar 29, 2012 @ 17:48:46
Ahh, is this related to your note about being up at 4am–and not getting any substantial writing done? Oh boy, that is a terrible way to start a day–or end a day–or continue a day I guess, as the case may be.
Hope you get some sleep tonight.
Mar 29, 2012 @ 17:50:36
I’ve tried to take naps all day, with no success. Sleep tonight will be a victory, but of course I will have no time time to write for the next few days (unless I can write on the bus to New York).
Mar 29, 2012 @ 19:13:20
Well, I’ve never been a napper myself. Good luck writing on a bus! I can’t do that either because it gives me motion sickness, lol.
Mar 29, 2012 @ 19:46:44
My problem as well. I doubt I will write.
Mar 30, 2012 @ 03:31:03
Being a fellow insommniac I can sympathize. Why is it writers always seem to suffer from insommnia? Is it because we have difficulty turning our minds off?
