I had another long drive today, this time without the benefit of a book on tape. So, as I let the radio scan in search of NPR stations to keep me entertained, my thoughts bounced around in a bizarre and random fashion to include these gems:
- Religion is really just about controlling when, how, and why we have sex.
- After catching part of a story about the randomness of the borderline between the US and Mexico: Lines connect but they also separate. If we could only erase all lines (even the invisible ones) maybe we would have more luck getting along with each other as an amorphous mass of living creatures.
- Why don’t more people understand that most of the problems in the world come from a small group of people who cannot see beyond their own wallets?
- 5 Hour Energy is really just a jolt of caffeine that tricks you into thinking it lasts longer. For some reason it makes me want to conduct orchestras as I found myself listening to classical music and conducting with my left hand.
- Who pays for all the Jesus/Abortion signs?
- Why don’t I like listening to music while I drive anymore? Of course, that changes if it is a truly singable song, but the only ones I want to sing come from my childhood. What does that mean?
- Do I have a sign on my car that says “slow down in front of me” and drive me insane?
There you have it folks. Random thoughts from someone who has been driving too much lately.

You need to put it in park for awhile. If this is your random stuff you’ve been out there too long. My random stuff, to follow yours, would have us talking at high decibels for a thousand miles. Viva la difference! Wanna go for a drive?

It would be fun to have someone to talk to on these road trips. My 8 year old daughter doesn’t seem interested in conversations about the deeper things in life. 😉

At the church I attend, we don’t ever focus on sex. Gays attend openly.
Most of our focus is on helping people who are less fortunate.
What you do with your hoo-ha is not church business.

I am sure that is true. The only reason that thought popped into my head is that every single Christian station that my radio scanned by (and there are an awful lot of them between Independence and Okoboji, IA seemed to be having some kind of discussion about sex in all its forms. Maybe it was just sex day on Christian talk radio or something. Jeesh! 😉

You do know, don’t you, we Presbyterians are referred to as “the frozen chosen”? We talk alot about sex. We just don’t do it……we don’t suggest that you stip it; we just think we should tell you how to, how not to, when to, when not to, sort of like our government.
I’m kidding here. What you hear on radio isn’t all of us who attend church, study Scripture, believe we are answerable to only One. Not my Congressman, not my President, not my boss except about how I serve him or her in my job.

I hope you know that I was just listing the random thoughts in my brain. I do think there is an element of sex control in every religion. I believe that somewhere in the Torah there is some mention that it is a mitzvah (good deed) to have sex on the Sabbath (or afterwards) or something so that everyone has it at least once a week. Obviously, I am not an expert. And, I don’t think that there is anything wrong with certain belief systems, or even the need to believe in something. I guess, though, I wonder why God would have created us with sexual desires and sexual parts that work if he/she did not intend for us to use them, and enjoy them.

Wow–I love some of these thoughts, Lisa. I would develop them into individual posts! I especially like the one about lines both connecting and separating. It’s like the word “cleave”–to cling–to cut apart, as in meat cleaver.

Gosh, I have similar thoughts just driving to the market down the street (exc for the Jesus / abortion signs – would be like bringing coals to Newcastle; I’m in TX). I think the religion / sex thing is similar to diet / food. People who go on diets are often obsessed about what they’re not supposed to eat.

A whole government is deciding for me what I eat or not, drink or not, weigh or not, what’s good for me or not, what I should be able to earn or keep or give away. A government permeated with its own self-obsessed ideas that we are their possessions. Either they don’t have enough to do or they have no interest in what we pay them to do. Doesn’t matter to me which side we’re talking about; it’s all of them. We’re just talking here about opinions. They are way beyond opinion, aiming for enforcement. Consider your coming new lightbulb and its miniscule amount of mercury….which the EPA website says they are working to reduce, So if it’s so miniscule, how’s come I gotta vacate my house and call a HAZMAT team to clean up a broken bulb? Read the website. Apply simple logic. Got three of them in my famiy room. Can’t readiy see my family…..

Great post–I find myself doing/thinking very similarly and wondering if I have ADHD or have some natural 5-Hr Energy fluid that occurs naturally in my body. My 92-year old father-in-law told me he wanted to try a can of the 5-HR Energy drink–my reply to him was that I think he’d have a heart attack.

I gave into the 5 Hour Energy because I kept feeling myself starting to drift off at the wheel. I’m not going to make a habit of it though. I’m serious that I couldn’t stop conducting. Scary.
